The battle of Stokes Croft

Recent events in Bristol show what happens when a community is ignored by a multinational corporation. In case this is the first you have heard of it (or if you have only read misleading mainstream media reports), here is some background.

We do not condone or condemn property violence, we only note that what happened in Bristol will most likely happen in other parts of the country if supermarkets and councils continue to ride roughshod over the opinions of local people.

Claire Milne, who co-ordinates the No Tesco in Stokes Croft campaign, believes a backlash was inevitable after objections and protests against the new store went unheard.

There are already 31 branches of Tesco in Bristol notes Laurie Penny.
